ReMade Aims to Bring the Maker Movement Mainstream Again

As we were planning our grand opening event, I received an e-mail from a guy named Chris. Chris talked to me about a documentary he and several other people were filming, and they wanted to come to the QC Co-Lab to feature our space. Not one to turn down free publicity, it was an easy choice to give them the green light. I had no idea what kind of professionalism, enthusiasm, not to mention being right cool people. That iPhone 4 wielding video crew was Electromagnate (@electromagnate,http://www.electromagnate.com) Armed with steady cam mounts and tripods that work with Apple’s latest phone

I’m not surprised, it was pretty awesome. Overall at the QC Co-Lab grand opening, we had people from 4 neighboring hackerspaces come visit, a documentary crew filming everything, cool talks ranging from cloning DNA and home hydroponics to establishing a web presence and changing how we learn today, impromptu soldering workshops, tweet-displyaing Apple II’s, fire and brimstone, and excitement galore. I’d like to take a

Grand Opening Friday – Flame On!

Posted on September 17, 2010 by contact

If you ever wanted to know what 1800 degree (F) bronze looks like, the QC Co-Lab is the place you want to be. David Hinkle (Twitter: @drachs1978) constructed a blast furnace and used it to liquify bronze ingots for sandcasting coins. Tonight’s firing was a dry (or maybe molten) run, and a complete success. Hopefully tomorrow our MakerBot will produce a mold fine enough for use in casting a QC Co-Lab coin! Now if that doesn’t signify a great first day of a grand opening, I don’t know what does. In addition, we had solder kits from Adafruit and Makershed, which were a big
